Facial Mole Removal

Most of the population has moles, warts, pigmented spots and other lesions on their head, face and neck. Most of these growths are benign; however, some lesions may be pre malignant or malignant. Moles that change shape, texture, color or size should be examined and possibly removed for biopsy.

At our office, we utilize the most advanced equipment, Radiowave surgery or/and Ultraspeed CO2 Laser (see our technology page for more information) to remove facial moles. These technologies are extremely gentle and leave minimal or no scar. Dr. Koyama and patient will work together to decide the treatment plan.

If radiowave instruments is used, the mole is melted away down to the normal tissue. This generally takes less than a minute. After removing the mole, a raw area the size of the mole is left. The raw area will heal in 5-6 days to smooth pink skin and fade to normal color over the coming weeks.

Laser Mole removal involves releasing laser light energy to the targeted area. The Laser light energy is absorbed only by the pigment in the skin. The pigment is broken up and then "carried away" by the body and absorbed during the healing process. Most aging spots, sunspots and flat moles can be removed with a few treatments. Repeat treatments may be required for certain birthmarks and moles (nevi) due to the depth of pigment. Most patients receive around three laser mole removal sessions Immediately after treatment, the area usually turns darker. This fades very quickly and the mole seems to "fall off" after 4-7 days. Makeup can be worn the same day and sunscreen is recommended for six weeks following treatment.
